From 23 to 24 September 2025, inovex GmbH and Navimatix GmbH successfully hosted the first international Zephyr in Science and Education conference at the Abbe Center of Photonics in Jena, Germany. The event brought together lecturers, educators, and researchers from universities across five countries to explore the role of the Zephyr RTOS in academic education, scientific research, and industry collaboration.
Throughout the one-and-a-half-day conference, participants shared insights, experiences, and innovative approaches to integrating Zephyr into both teaching and research contexts. The programme featured a variety of presentations, hands-on sessions, and discussions showcasing how Zephyr can support modern embedded systems education and enable scientific advancements. Special focus was placed on didactic strategies, research use cases, and opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry.
In addition to the professional sessions, the conference also offered valuable networking opportunities. On the first evening, attendees enjoyed an engaging social event that included a guided tour of the Lichtwerkstatt Jena. This provided further inspiration and an opportunity to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.
The conference encouraged the vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas, thereby strengthening the Zephyr community within the fields of science and education. The organizers would like to thank all contributors and attendees for their valuable input and active participation.
We look forward to continuing the dialogue and further expanding the use of Zephyr in academic and research environments in the years to come.
Looking forward to ZiSE2026!
Both the organisers and the participants have expressed interest in hosting the conference again next year. One possible date would be in autumn, immediately after the 2026 Open Source Summit Europe.
